A group of doctors from the 2018 MBBS batch in Tamil Nadu has voiced concerns about the transparency of the Medical Services Recruitment Board's (MRB) ongoing process to fill 2,642 assistant surgeon positions. The primary issue centers around the eligibility criteria related to registration dates with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC).

Initially, the MRB's notification specified that only doctors registered with the TNMC by May 15, 2024, were eligible to apply. Following appeals from those unable to meet this deadline, the MRB extended the cut-off to July 15, 2024. However, some candidates, due to delays in receiving their degree certificates from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, couldn't register even by the extended date. These individuals reportedly applied using provisional registration numbers, which has raised concerns among their peers.

Dr. V. Paranthaman, an aspirant, highlighted that approximately 400 doctors applied using provisional registration numbers, potentially violating the notification's stipulation that only fully registered medical practitioners are eligible. This situation has led to worries about fairness and the potential impact on seniority. Attempts to discuss these concerns with MRB and senior health officials have reportedly been unsuccessful.
