In a coordinated effort to boost emergency preparedness across the country, hospitals in various states of India conducted mock drills yesterday to test their readiness for possible wartime scenarios. The exercise, overseen by central and state health authorities, aimed to assess hospital infrastructure, response systems, and coordination mechanisms in case of mass casualty events. With rising geopolitical tensions, the drills were part of a proactive approach to ensure that India's healthcare system is not caught off guard.

Major hospitals in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru participated in the drill, simulating situations such as bomb blasts, chemical attacks, and mass injuries. Emergency wards were transformed into triage zones, and mock patients were brought in to test the efficiency of medical and support staff. Ambulance services, local police, fire departments, and disaster management teams were also roped in to assess inter-agency coordination.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare emphasized that such mock drills are vital in building resilience and minimizing panic during real emergencies. Officials noted that the drill not only helped evaluate the availability of emergency medicines, beds, oxygen supply, and trauma care units but also provided insight into logistical bottlenecks and staff readiness. Health workers, doctors, and paramedics underwent emergency response training as part of the exercise.

Public awareness was another key component of the mock drills. Announcements were made in advance to prevent panic among citizens. Several hospitals also held public information sessions post-drill to educate people on basic first-aid, emergency helpline usage, and evacuation protocols. Authorities urged citizens to remain calm but alert, as preparedness is a shared responsibility between the government and the public.

Given the current uncertainty in the global geopolitical landscape, including potential threats of war, India’s initiative to strengthen hospital emergency protocols is seen as a timely and necessary measure. Health experts praised the government’s foresight, stating that these drills will serve as crucial groundwork in ensuring lives can be saved efficiently in times of national crisis.
